Tracing Your Roots To Gallipoli

Remembering some of the Bolton men who lost their lives in the Gallipoli Campaign of 1915

(Arthur) Alfred Carrington

Born Arthur Alfred Carrington he was the son of George Carrington b.1855, an iron planer and sometime labourer and Ellen Carrington née Riggett b.1854.

He first appeared on the 1891 Census living at 59 Welby Street, Grantham, Lincolnshire with his parents and siblings Emily Annie b.1881, Alice Louise b.1885, Hannah Maria b.1887, George Henry b.1899 and Elizabeth Ann b.1891.

By 1901 the family were living at 22 Mona Street, Bolton along with a new daughter - Frances Ellen b.1894. Alfred was then employed as a general labourer.

In 1911 - as Arthur Carrington - he was listed as a private soldier serving with 1st Bn Lancashire Fusiliers in India.

His name appears as Alfred Carrington on all memorials, including on the Bolton Borough Roll of Honour.
