Tracing Your Roots To Gallipoli

Remembering some of the Bolton men who lost their lives in the Gallipoli Campaign of 1915

Frederick Dean

Frederick was the son of Eli Dean b.1849, a coal miner, and Sarah Dean née Swingewood b.1850.

He first appeared on the 1891 Census living at 6 Jumbolts, Little Lever, Lancashire with his parents and siblings Joseph b.1870, James b.1871, Betsy b.1886, and Martha Ann b.1889.

His parents were both originally from Staffordshire. In 1901 Frederick and his family were recorded as living at 96 Red Street, Chesterton, Staffordshire.

Frederick married Margaret Proctor b.1885 at Holy Trinity Church, Chesterton, Staffordshire on 21 November 1904.

They appear on the 1911 Census living at 9 Copes Row, Red Street, Chesterton with their children George Elias b.1905, James Albert b.1906 and Sarah Elizabeth b.1908. Frederick was then working as a coal miner.

They had two other children: Eli Thomas b.1912 and Frederick b.1914.

Frederick was killed in action at Gallipoli.
