Tracing Your Roots To Gallipoli

Remembering some of the Bolton men who lost their lives in the Gallipoli Campaign of 1915

John Francis Henry

John Francis, known as Frank was the son of John Henry b.1871, an auctioneer and sometime herbalist, and Clara Henry née Foulks b.1876.

Frank was baptised in Farnworth in December 1897 when the family were living at Brackley Street.

The family moved around the country a great deal and left few other traces.

Frank appeared on the 1901 Census (as Francis) living in Algernon Street, Walsall, Staffordshire with his parents and siblings Mary b.1893, Lord Cecil b.1896 and Gladys b.1899. The children were all listed as having been born in Great Bridge, Stafford although Frank and Cecil were born in Farnworth and Gladys was born in Great Marsden, Nelson, Lancashire.

Frank's father John appears to have enlisted in the Royal Army Medical Corps in Portsmouth in October 1915 - perhaps in response to his son's death.
