Tracing Your Roots To Gallipoli

Remembering some of the Bolton men who lost their lives in the Gallipoli Campaign of 1915

Thomas Hewitt

Thomas was the son of Thomas Henry Hewitt b.1863, a machinist and joiner's sawyer, and Mary Alice Hewitt née Strickland b.1868.

Thomas first appeared on the 1901 Census living at 19 Winter Street, Horwich with his parents and sisters Mary Ellen b.1890, Ethel b.1893 and Alice b.1901.

In 1911 he was living at 74 Bull Lane, Off Lever Street, Bolton with his parents and sisters Mary Ellen and Ethel. Alice and two other children had died by 1911.

Thomas was then working as a piler in an iron forge. His father was not working at the time of the Census.
