Tracing Your Roots To Gallipoli

Remembering some of the Bolton men who lost their lives in the Gallipoli Campaign of 1915

John Lowe

John was the son of Thomas Lowe b.1836, a watchman and sometime smith, and Ellen Lowe née Caldwell b.1841.

In 1881 John was living at 42 Napier Street, Warrington with his parents and siblings Mary Ann b.1862, Robert b.1866, William b.1871, Gilbert b.1873, Joseph b.1875 and James Robey b.1877.

In 1891 John was a boarding pupil at the Blue Coat School, Warrington.

In 1901 John was living at 16 Atherton Road, Hindley, Lancashire with his uncle Joseph Houghton and aunt Eliza Houghton née Lowe. He was working as a house painter, which was also his uncle's profession.

John married Clara Hetty Gregory at St Bartholomew's Church, Westhoughton on 13 April 1903.

In 1911 the couple were living at 770 Wigan Road, Westhoughton with their son Roger b.1908. John was still working as a house painter.

They had two other children - Frederick b.1912 and Olive b.1914.

His name is on Westhoughton War Memorial.
