Tracing Your Roots To Gallipoli

Remembering some of the Bolton men who lost their lives in the Gallipoli Campaign of 1915

John Preston

John was the son of William Preston, a labourer, and Ann Preston b.1868.

John first appeared on the 1901 Census living at 6 Folds Court, Bolton with his mother and siblings Mary Elizabeth b.1890, Margaret Ann b.1893, William b.1895 and Helen b.1900.

John's mother Ann remarried to James Lowe in Bolton in 1905.

Ann died c.1910 and by 1911 John and his brother William were living at 57 Smith Street, Bolton with their stepfather and half-siblings Annie Lowe b.1906 and James Lowe b.1909.

John was working as a crofter in a bleachworks.
