Tracing Your Roots To Gallipoli

Remembering some of the Bolton men who lost their lives in the Gallipoli Campaign of 1915

Hugh Davenport Ryding

Hugh was the son of William Ryding b.1870, an iron foundry core maker and Louisa Ryding née Moore b.1872.

Although born in Horwich (as was his father) Hugh first appeared on the 1901 Census living at 28 Winton Street, Ashton under Lyne with his parents and siblings Edward b.1896 and James William b.1898.

By 1911 the family were living at 15 Carr Street, Higher Hurst, Ashton under Lyne.

Following in his father's footsteps, Hugh was then working as a moulder in an iron foundry.
