Pte. Fred Barlow (19), L.N.L. Regt., 62 Queensgate, Bolton, was killed whilst leaving the trenches on December 15th under heavy shell fire. He was a member of the office staff of Messrs. Thos. Taylor and Sons, Ltd., Grecian Mills, Great Lever, joining up in April and proceeding to the front some four months later. Residing with his mother and sister, he was the younger of two soldier sons, his brother Richard being on active service with the London Fusiliers. Fred was a member of the choir at St. Margaret’s and an enthusiastic worker in connexion with the school. He was also an old boy of Oxford Grove Council School.
