KILLED AFTER SIX WEEKS IN FRANCE
The death has been reported, killed in action, of Pte. (5897) Geo. Johnson, 7th Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment. The circumstances of the casualty are not stated in the War Office communication which merely announces that Johnson was killed on December 29th. The deceased soldier was 19 years of age, and resided with his sister at John Brown-st. He was employed, prior to enlisting soon after the commencement of the war, as a traveller by Messrs. William Edge and Sons, Ltd., “Dolly Blue” manufacturers, previous to which he was with Mr. John Haslam, grocer, St. George’s-rd. He had only been at the front for six weeks when he met his death.
