Mrs Southern, 164 Oxford-grove, Bolton, has received news from the Army Chaplain that her son, Pte. NORMAN SOUTHERN, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, has been killed in action on August 16th. He enlisted on May 19th. 1915, and went to the front in February last. He was in the firing line five weeks when he was wounded and brought to England, and he went back in June. He was 21 years of age, and a member of the Lads’ Club and the Sunday Bible Class. Before the war he was employed at the Haslam Spinning Co.’s mill, Chorley old-rd., and is on the Roll of Honour at St. Luke’s Church, and Oxford-grove School.
