Pte. J. TOWN, who joined the Canadians in April 1916, and was killed on the 9th of last month, was formerly employed at Musgrave’s mills, and with Mr. J. Howarth, farmer, Markland Hill. His parents reside at 40, Bashall-st., Bolton. Before going to Canada in 1911, Town was an enthusiastic member of the Boys’ Brigade.
On his attestation papers John Town is described as being 5 foot 7½ inches tall with a fair complexion, blue eyes and auburn hair - and a scar on his right knee. His civilian occupation in Canada was farmer and his religion Church of England. His next of kin is given as Edwin Town of 40 Bashall St, Bolton, England.
